Samson

Samson was a qualified social worker, responsible for managing a team of three more social workers.  However, he also had more general management responsibilities within NOTDEC Uganda — particularly in relation to the physical practicalities of daily life. And — like Milly, with whom he worked very closely — he was very "hands on", helping her administer polio vaccine for example. Samson left NOTDEC on 29th September 2016.

Well before Samson left, the role of his team of social workers was increasingly rooted in what was becoming Government policy — seeking to settle each child with any living family members that could be traced and who was willing to take them. This involved many visits finding any family there was, getting their agreement and introducing child and family to each other.  And once the child was resettled then, on an on-going basis, there were many more trips to check that each child was safe, happy and being cared for properly.  Making all this happen called for far more travelling around than NOTDEC Uganda had been used to, so Samson took responsibility for choosing and buying NODEC's first motorbike — to make journeys easier and cheaper and NOTDEC Uganda more effective.
